About the Town of Brentwood, NH
Brentwood, New Hampshire, located in Rockingham County, has a rich history and is known for its strong sense of community, excellent schools, and active community activities. Brentwood was incorporated in 1742 and was named after Brentwood, Essex, in England. It was initially settled as a farming community, and agriculture remained its primary industry for many years. The town played a role in the American Revolution, with several residents serving in the Continental Army. During the 19th century, Brentwood experienced significant growth with the establishment of mills and factories.
Today, Brentwood has a population of approximately 4,500 residents. The town operates under a board of selectmen form of government, with three selectmen elected by the town’s residents. The board of selectmen is responsible for overseeing the town’s administration, including budgeting, policy-making, and ensuring the delivery of essential services.
Brentwood places a strong emphasis on education, and the town is home to the Brentwood School District. The district consists of the Swasey Central School, which serves students from kindergarten through grade 5, and the Cooperative Middle School, which accommodates students from grades 6 to 8.
